VISION
“Every day we must all make God the centre of our lives;
and be fearless in asking God what to do,
and then do it.”
The Winged Ox
This has always been the traditional symbol for St Luke, indicating the emphasis that he puts on Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice; as one article puts it:
“The ox has the traits of strength, diligence and patience, and unwearied discharge of the work to be done. As a sacrificial animal, the ox emphasises Jesus' sacrificial atonement.”
Luke is often thought of as being Patron Saint of doctors; but he is also Patron of artists, painters, sculptors, craft workers, lace makers – and butchers!
This logo links us to the most important aspect of Luke – as an Evangelist.
The reason for using that particular picture, which some find a little odd,
is that it stands out, and draws attention to itself, helping St Luke’s stand out.
The hope is that when people see the logo, they will think of our church – that we will stand out in the community.
St. Luke’s Anglican Church is situated at Modbury
in the north-eastern suburbs of Adelaide.
